COACHES' CODE OF
ETHICS

ARTICLE 1: Responsibilities to Players
The coach should never place the value of winning over the safety and
welfare of his/her players. Considerable emphasis should be placed on
positive character traits, fair play, fair playing time, and fun. Each
player should play at least 50% of every game. Each practice should be
pre-planned and well organized.
Coaches have a responsibility to always play within the rules of the game
and to not tolerate unsporting behavior from their players, regardless of
the situation.
Demands on players should never be so extensive as to interfere with
students' academic progress.
Coaches are to refrain from the use of alcohol or tobacco products
at club/league sanctioned events (ex, games,
practice, team party, etc.).
Under
no conditions is a coach to be under the influence of alcohol, or illegal
substances when his/her team is present.
ARTICLE 2: Responsibility to the Soccer Club
The function of the coach is to contribute to the education and well being
of the student through participation in soccer. This must never be
disregarded.
The coach must behave in such a manner that the principles, integrity, and
dignity of the club are not compromised.
Coaches must support administrative decisions in all policies, rules, and
regulations regarding soccer.
Coaches are responsible to return all borrowed equipment in good condition
at the end of the season.
ARTICLE 3: Rules of the Game
Coaches must be acquainted thoroughly with the rules of soccer.
Coaches must adhere to the letter and spirit of these rules.
Coaches who circumvent the rules or use illegal or dangerous tactics will
not be permitted to continue with the club.
Coaches must be acquainted thoroughly with the rules and bylaws of GLCSL.
ARTICLE 4: Officials
Officials are to be treated with respect. Coaches are to never address
officials in a demeaning fashion before, during, or after a game.
A coach must not incite players or fans against the referee or against the
flow of the game.
ARTICLE 5: Other Responsibilities
The behavior of a coach must be such as to bring credit to himself, his club
and to soccer.
Coaches have a responsibility to be as inconspicuous as possible during a
game. The attitude of coaches toward officials should be controlled and
undemonstrative.
Coaches are responsible to assist in setting up the field when they have the
first game and to help with the field disassembly if their game is the last
scheduled game of the day.
As a coach, I am in agreement with the ethics policy and will abide by the
standards and responsibilities given to me.
